Coronavirus and parcel deliveries

Public Health England and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have both advised that there is no perceived increase in the risk of contracting the new coronavirus for handling post or freight from specified areas. From experience with other coronaviruses, we know these types of viruses don’t survive long on objects, such as letters or parcels. This is because the virus is transmitted via droplets which dry out quickly on absorbent surfaces such as cardboard, and the virus does not survive once dried. Therefore it is safe to receive mail and parcels.

I would like to avoid any contact. Can I still get my parcel?

Hermes is trying to avoid personal contact between the recipient and courier.

As soon as you receive a shipment notification from Hermes, you can specify a safe place location for the courier to leave your parcel via the tracking section on their website or via their My Places app. For example, this could be your patio or your garden.

If a safe place hasn’t been chosen but there is somewhere safe to deliver the parcel, Hermes will leave it there—even if there is someone in the property. Hermes will take a photo, which will be included in the delivery notification email.

If no safe place is available, Hermes will knock on the door and step aside making sure the parcel is delivered safely. If there is no answer, Hermes will return the parcel to the depot and re-attempt delivery on another day.

As a company, we naturally assume responsibility in this situation for all people with whom we are in direct or indirect contact. For this reason, a large number of employees are now working from home. Business trips, external appointments and events have been postponed or cancelled. Strict hygiene regulations apply in our dispatch centres, which are checked daily and adjusted if necessary.

You can continue to use our services without restrictions and rely on our service.

I can no longer get to the post office and therefore do not wish to order.

If you cannot leave the house to post your order, you are welcome to call us and we will be happy to place the order over the phone. We accept credit or debit cards over the phone and also PayPal online at www.artigiano.co.uk.
