dresses feature so prominently this season, we thought we’d ask her what should be the hallmarks of a
truly great dress:
What makes a great fitting dress?
I always call to mind this famous quote by Givenchy - "The dress must follow the body of a woman, not
the body following the shape of the dress." This is my starting point. Women want to step out in
confidence, knowing that the cut of their favourite dress flatters and enhances the figure, yet is easy and
comfortable to wear & there's nothing worse than feeling self-conscious because of an awkward neckline,
a fabric that clings or a skirt length that's not quite right.
How do you match the right fabric to your design?
When choosing fabric for summer dresses I spend a long time considering how, when and where they
might be worn. For example, our Italian printed jersey dress is a dream to wear and to wash plus it packs
to nothing & the perfect summer dress. Crisp cottons obviously are lovely and cool and allow for a more
structured silhouette ideal for a smart occasion. Linen, of course remains the very best natural fibre for
laid back style & so easy to wear, even when the temperatures soar.
Are prints important?
Prints always give your wardrobe a lift and we've found some really beautiful ones this summer. From
soft, smudgy florals, ethnic inspired borders and bold statement designs. Gingham was a key fabric theme
